Things to Do in San Diego September
When the calendar flips to September, you might think the best of San Diego's sunny days are behind us. Think again! September is actually one of the finest months to visit this coastal California gem. The throngs of summer tourists have gone, the weather is still incredibly pleasant, and there are plenty of activities to suit all ages and interests. From cultural events to outdoor adventures, here are some top things to do in San Diego this September.
Here's my picks for things to do in San Diego this month. Of course no list of mine would be complete without some holistic and yoga events.
Held annually on Mission Bay, the San Diego Bayfair offers a weekend of world-class boat racing, live music, and fun activities for the whole family. Don't miss this exciting water event that turns San Diego Bay into a racetrack.
By September, the summer crowds have thinned out, but the water is still warm. Whether you're into surfing, sunbathing, or beach volleyball, now’s a great time to hit the beaches of La Jolla, Coronado, or Mission Bay.
Foodies, rejoice! San Diego Restaurant Week usually takes place in late September. It's a fantastic way to explore the city’s vibrant food scene without breaking the bank. Multiple restaurants participate, offering discounted prix fixe menus.
Held at Waterfront Park, a venue that offers stunning views of the San Diego Bay and skyline. The festival primarily focuses on electronic and dance music genres, including house, techno, and more. Since its inception, CRSSD has gained a reputation for its more "grown-up" atmosphere, catering to a 21-and-over crowd.
The Festival will once again celebrate the early days of Escondido, when agriculture was “King” and festival goers traveled from all across the state to see why Escondido was hailed as a great place to grow sweet grapes and a central hub of citrus and other crops. From 1908 to 1950, it drew thousands of Southern Californians and rivaled Pasadena’s Festival of Roses in attendance. Revived by the Escondido History Center in 1990, it ran through 2018, and then again in 2022 after the Pandemic. This year, the History Center is once again bringing the Grape Day Festival to life, with a focus on celebrating the traditions of Escondido’s glorious past. Robin Fox, from the Escondido History Center recalls, “Grape Day is Escondido’s one-day history lesson, as well as a fun time for the whole family. And it’s free”
