Free outdoor movie screenings this year include popular movies from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Super Mario Bros’ to Disney favorites ‘Moana’ and ‘Lilo & Stitch’

The season of family movies in the park is back.

This week marks the beginning of the 16th season of the Summer Movies in the Park series, which consists of outdoor movie screenings at various locations throughout San Diego County.

This program by the county’s Parks and Recreation Department includes free screenings of 150 movies at dozens of parks.

This year’s list includes “Super Mario Bros,” “DC League of Super Pets,” “Encanto” and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.” To those who prefer action-packed movies, there will be screenings of “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Black Panther” and “Ant-Man and The Wasp.”

This year, some weekends will have a theme, including Juneteenth (June 16, 17), Comic-Con (July 21, 22), Ladies Night (Aug. 12), International Dog Day (Aug. 25, 26), Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 - Oct. 15) and Halloween.
